Tofu Dave is the live stage MC, known for a down-home presence that the audience relates to during live music. He guides Americana, blues, or jazz sets with ease and a sense of familiarity that helps crowd energy. His persona blends professionalism with approachability, making him relatable without sacrificing showmanship.
Bi-lingual with Spanish jokes and gringo commentary, he remains down to earth on stage, inviting varied audiences to feel included. Some audiences nickname him ‘The Blue-Collar Buddha,’ a label that reflects his practical humor and his connection to everyday life.
Biography
Flexibility guides Tofu in many facets of life. He has broad experience across performance, production, and community work. His work spans literature and live events. He has front-stage MC duties and backstage roles such as sound, artist hospitality, and security.
When not at live events, he organizes factory workers and builds co-housing communities. He has dealt with land development and managed finances. He has volunteered on the boards of several nonprofits and helped found community radio. And he still isn’t exhausted, at least not always.
Currently board member of WCOM FM community radio in Chapel Hill & Carrboro NC. — Packing more into a few minutes than others manage in an hour!
